Completeness for weekly reporting in week 33 of 2015 was 89% as compared to 81% in week 32 of 2015 and 75% in week 33 of 2014.
In week 33 of 2015, malaria was the top cause of morbidity among IDPs and registered a proportionate morbidity of 39.5%, which represents an increase when compared to 30.5% in week 32 of 2015. The malaria trend has been rising in Bentiu PoC with the incidence (cases per 10,000) increasing from 113 in week 22 of 2015 to 820 in week 33 of 2015. This trend is consistent with a malaria epidemic in the PoC.
In week 33 of 2015, 15 new measles cases have been reported from Bentiu PoC giving a total of 373 measles cases including 7 deaths (CFR 1.88%) since the beginning of 2015. A measles outbreak was recently confirmed in Renk and preparations for a measles vaccination campaign are underway.
Cholera cases have risen to 1,600 including 44 deaths [CFR 2.8%] in Juba and Bor Counties. Followng a coordinated and comprehensive response, a declining trend has been registered in Juba and Bor during the last four weeks.
In week 33 of 2015, 168 new cases of HEV have been reported from Bentiu PoC giving a total of 545 cases including 9 deaths (CFR 1.7%) in Bentiu. A total of 151 cases including seven deaths (CFR 4.6%) in Mingkaman. In Lankien, 33 probable HEV cases including one death (CFR 3%) have been reported since week 35 of 2014.
The under-5 and crude mortality rates by IDP site were below the emergency threshold in week 33 of 2015. In Bentiu, the U5MR has been rising but remains below the emergency threshold. In week 33 of 2015, the common causes of death among children under-five in Bentiu were malaria, malnutrition, and perinatal complications.
