According to a report received from Soul organization for development, IDPs and residents are suffering from the severe shortage of food rations in markets, without alternatives or reserves to meet basic food needs. In addition, freedom of movement has been severely restrained due to the ongoing security situation affecting road traffic between neighboring governorates. This has reduced commerce and led to the closure of several large stores which has consequently increased the panic and fear among the population anticipating a further decline of the security and humanitarian situation.
There is also a severe shortage of essential medicines and medical supplies unable to deal with the current emergency. Already the increase of the population due to internal displacement places a heavy burden on the medical services. In case of larger scale military attacks with civilian casualties, the health services will not be able to cope. At the same time there are no private pharmacies that can cover the shortage of medicines, while most IDPs and residents cannot afford the cost of essential drugs. There are many cases suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. Patients are permanently in dire need of medicines and medical supplies otherwise they risk death or permanent disability.
