A total of 14,203 Burundian refugees have been received in the country since the onset of the influx, including 10, 706 in Nakivale; 156 in Orukinga; 222 in Kyaka II, 3002 in Kampala; and 117 in Kisoro. This is a 239 increment from last week. Nevertheless, the influx of Burundian refugees into the country is steadily decreasing. In Nakivale, there were 27 new arrivals compared to 32 and 54 in the previous weeks while at Kabazana reception center, a total of 41 Burundian refugees were received at an average of six individuals daily.
In Nakivale, the emergency inter-agency team launched a nine day ‘Go back to school’ campaign on 8 September at Kashojwa Primary School. The campaign aimed at increasing school enrolment rates of refugee children is expected to be rolled out to other Burundian villages. UNHCR, OPM, partners, Isingiro District officials, refugee leaders, religious leaders and teachers participated.
