Situation Update
During week 39 of 2015 (21-27 September 2015), five new cholera cases have been reported from Juba county [Jopa (2) and Lokwilili (1) in Northern Bari; Munuki Block C (1)] and Bor county [Lekyak in Anyidi Payam (1)]. The three cases from Jopa (2) and Anyidi (1) were RDT positive for cholera. However, the last case that tested positive for cholera using the alkaline peptone water-enriched cholera RDT was on 13 September 2015 in Juba Teaching Hospital. (Figure 1)
As of 27 September 2015, a cumulative of 1,757 cholera cases including 46 deaths (CFR 2.63%) have been reported from Juba and Bor counties. In Juba County, 1,618 cases including 45 deaths (CFR 2.78%) have been reported from seven Payams. In Bor, 139 cases including one death (0.72%) have been reported from Makuach Payam and other areas in the county (Table 1 and 2).
