General Overview
- Completeness for weekly reporting in week 41 of 2015 was 80% as compared to 80% in week 40 of 2015 and 77% in week 41 of 2014.
- In week 41 of 2015, malaria was the top cause of morbidity among IDPs and registered a proportionate morbidity of 40.4% as compared to 38.8% in week 40 of 2015. The malaria incidence in week 41 of 2015 was highest in Bentiu PoC followed by Malakal PoC, and Bor PoC. This week, malaria incidence in Bentiu PoC and Malakal PoC is consistent with a malaria upsurge that has reached epidemic proportions.
- In week 41 of 2015, Bentiu and UN House PoCs reported three and four new measles cases respectively. Since the beginning of 2015, Bentiu has reported 470 measles cases including 14 deaths (CFR 2.98%) while UN House has reported 21 measles cases with no deaths.
- Cholera cases stand at 1,815 including 47 deaths [CFR 2.59%] in Juba, Kajo Keji, and Bor Counties. Following a coordinated and comprehensive response, a declining trend has been registered. The last laboratory culture confirmed cholera case was reported on 5 October 2015 in Juba County.
- In week 41 of 2015, Bentiu PoC reported 61 new HEV cases. Since the beginning of 2015, the cumulative for HEV is 1,632 cases including 14 deaths (CFR 0.86%) in Bentiu; 154 cases including seven deaths (CFR 4.6%) in Mingkaman; and 37 cases including one death (CFR 2.7%) in Lankien.
In week 39 of 2015, a total of 545 and 32 children under five years presenting with severe acute malnutrition were admitted to the Outpatient and Inpatient Therapeutic Programs in Bentiu PoC as compared to 678 in week 38.
- In week 41 of 2015, the under-5 mortality rate for Bentiu PoC was 1.020 deaths per 10,000 per day, which is below the U5MR emergency threshold of 2 deaths per 10,000 per day. The notable causes of death in children under five years in Bentiu during week 41 of 2015 included malaria, malnutrition, and acute watery diarrhoea.
