World: Pacific syndromic surveillance report: Week 50, ending 13 December, 2015

The following syndromes have been flagged:

Diarrhoea: Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands

Influenza-Like illness: Nauru, Tokelau

Other updates

Diarrhoea

Increasing number of cases of diarrhoea in the Solomon Islands. Most of the cases are from Honiara and Guadalcanal in young children aged less than 5 years. A WHO epidemiologist has been deployed to assist with the investigations.

Chikungunya

An outbreak is ongoing in Tuvalu.

Dengue

There is currently a dengue serotype-2 outbreak in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea (PNG) as confirmed by the Institute of Medical Research, PNG.

As of 15 December 2015 , there have been 152 confirmed cases of dengue on Hawaii Island since September. Dengue serotype-1 has been identified in circulation.

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)

No confirmed cases of EVD were reported in the week to 13 December. All contacts associated with the cluster of 3 confirmed cases of EVD reported from Liberia in the week to 22 November have now completed 21-day follow-up.
