PRIORITIES
- Efforts are underway to place Burundian refugee arrivals in their new shelters in a timely manner. Teams remain prepared for an increased influx.
- Road rehabilitation to improve access to refugee settlements.
HIGHLIGHTS
- A total of 464 Burundian new arrivals were received in Nakivale, out of which 28 were transported from Mirama Hills border point, five from Kashenyi Police Post, one from Mutukula and another from Kisoro. Another 29 individuals were referred from Kampala while 400 individuals directly walked to OPM registration offices. The number of new arrivals has increased compared to 291 reported last week. The new arrivals are citing heightened insecurity in Burundi and family reunion as reasons for fleeing. The refugees are mainly coming from Bujumbura, Muyinga, Kirundo, Kibitoke and Bubanza provinces.
UPDATE ON ACHIEVEMENTS
Operational context
At Kabazana Reception Centre, UNHCR, OPM and ARC conducted the weekly joint physical headcount to establish the number of residents. A total of 541 individuals, of which 382 are Burundians are currently residing at the centre. This is a slight increase from last week’s 512 individuals.
