There were 10 newly confirmed cases of Ebola this week, down from 16 last week. There were three cases in Forécariah, four in Dubréka, two in Boké and one Conakry.
The total number of confirmed cases of Ebola rose to 3,249 this week, according to WHO’s Epidemiological Situation Report. The total number of confirmed, suspected and probable cases increased to 3,678. The number of confirmed deaths from Ebola rose to 2,025 with a total of 2,444 confirmed, suspected and probable deaths.
After the first four days of the latest 25-day Emergency Health Campaign focusing on active case detection which started in Dubréka on 7 June 2015, social mobilizers had reached 13,717 people in 2,834 households, exceeding targets.
In the context of the new emergency measures announced by Guinean President Alpha Condé, new health checkpoints are in the process of being established in Coyah and Boké.
Countrywide, UNICEF and partners sensitized 167,428 people in prefectures where cases of Ebola persist. Activities included 164 door-to-door visits and 25 educational talks.
Guinea’s Maternal and Child Health Week started on 11 June 2015 in all prefectures apart from Forécariah, Dubréka and Boké where cases of Ebola persist. The campaign is focusing on providing vaccinations to children under five who have so far missed out, and improving the health of mothers or expectant mothers with folic acid and iron supplements.
UNICEF and partners continued to monitor how well Ebola safety protocols are being followed in schools.
