Overview
Since September 2015, the meteorology experts have started warning the upcoming El Nino event. This event must be accompanied by the heaviest rainfall. Burundi is among the countries that should be affected by this event.
With its partners, including the Geographical Institute of Burundi (IGEBU), Burundi Red Cross quickly set and prepared an El Nino contingency plan to mitigate the effects of this event. Thus, 11 provinces were initially identified as being at risk but, in the meantime, other provinces (at least 3) have been added. All these provinces have so far been adversely affected by this event. As the days go by, the event seems to intensify. Here we will point out the current situation in different affected provinces, volunteers' action and draw a table of emergency needs.
