Biophysical Indicators
The biophysical indicators show positive fluctuations within the expected seasonal ranges.
The seasonal short rains ceased in the fourth week of December, 2015.
The vegetation condition. The 3-month VCI shows that the County vegetation condition is above normal ranges at 54.59 which is an increase compared to that of the month of December which was at 39.52. Bura (Tana North Sub County) recorded the lowest VCI at 44.91 but indicates an improvement in comparison to that month of December which was a VCI of 28.72.
Currently the state of water sources still remains at the range of 2-3 in the county. This is the normal range during this time of the year and is attributed to the recent short rains.
Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)
There is no unusual livestock migration patterns noted in the county.
No livestock death was reported.
The crop wiltered on the farm due to extreme temperatures.
Livestock body condition for cattle, goats and sheep has improved and is good in all livelihood zones.
Utilization indicators
The malnutrition status of children under the age of 5 years who are at risk increased To 7.58 % in January compared to the month of December which stood at 6.5%. This could be attributed to availability of sufficient milk for consumption at the household level and the ongoing relief Interventions.
