Fiji: National Emergency Operation Center: Tropical Cyclone Winston Situation Report 48 of 03/03/2016

The purpose of this report is to provide the update on the current operations undertaken after TC Winston.

This Situation Report is issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre and covers the period from 0800 hours to 1600 hours on 03/03/2016. Updates in this report summarise all reports and briefs submitted from various EOC’s in the four divisions.

1.0 HIGHLIGHTS OF LAST 12 HOURS

  • Ration Trucks dispatched this morning for the Tikina Nasau. First four DAC Settlements will be supplied with 1 month rations today

  • Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts permanent secretary, Mr Iowane Tiko to receive book donation from Suva Book Shop for school students affected

  • MV Vatulawa ETA at Savusavu jetty is 1600hrs for offloading of food consignments for the affected people of Cakaudrove. While waiting for the next stock supply Cakaudrove 16 volunteers continued to carry out assessment and would be completing Wailevu district today before they move up to Naweni and Cakaudrove districts.

  • Media Briefing by Director Disaster Management, Mr Akapusi Tuifagalele on TC Winston relief and rehabilitation operations @ 1pm. Also a media release to the general public to refrain from setting fire especially in areas affected by TCW.

  • 319 RFMF personnel & 10 PWD personnel continue to assist in the rehabilitation & ration distribution in various areas.

  • The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji has temporarily waived import requirements for all animal and food products that are currently allowed into Fiji to facilitate relief aid.

  • 500 clean drinking water filters have been deployed to Rakiraki, with 51 filters delivered to Vatukacevaceva, 49 to be distributed today and an additional 400 water filters to be distributed to affected families this week. Water filters provided by the Give Clean Water Fiji Trust in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

  • Wainibuka River safe – Police have retrieved the ten wheeler truck and its container packed with Sodium Cyanide

  • New Reports received from division commissioner eastern on the province of Lomaiviti namely Batiki, Nairai and Moturiki. Provision of water tanks and temporary shelter for people of Naigani need to be pursued immediately.
