Fiji: National Emergency Operation Center: Tropical Cyclone Winston Situation Report 50 of 04/03/2016

The purpose of this report is to provide the update on the current operations undertaken after TC Winston.

This Situation Report is issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre and covers the period from 0000 to 0800 hours on 04/03/2016. Updates in this report summarise all reports and briefs submitted from various EOC’s in the four divisions.

1.0 HIGHLIGHTS OF LAST 12 HOURS

  • MOH officials have confirmed that 3 cases of typhoid were confirmed and details are listed below:

  • 3 persons from Qelekuro were treated and sent home

  • 1 of the above person spent 2 weeks in Qoma and contracted typhoid upon returning to Qelekuro

  • 2 suspected cases from Viria were treated and sent back home and currently awaiting confirmation of blood results

  • Qelekuro village has been quarantined and the Turaga ni Koro is being tasked to monitor movements in and out of the village.

  • The Acting Sub Divisional Health Inspector, Mr Aminiasi Kamikamica has confirmed that they have carried out Mosquito and Disinfectant Spraying at Dawasamu District and Dawasamu Secondary schools and also at Driti village. Concerns on disease breakout have also been relayed to the Ministry hence updates will be submitted on coverage of health checks and visits.

  • At 1000hrs 2 trucks left for Nadarivatu district for distribution of basic necessities.

  • 1400hrs 3 trucks left for Rakiraki district for the distribution of basic necessities.

  • Some Turaga ni Koro in Bua took the initiative in providing their own vehicles and signing out their due ration for their villages.

  • Wainunu & Solevu Districts. Completed distribution of ration to all villages and Settlements.

  • Nadi-Only two villages covered

  • The Ice Plant at the Fisheries Office in Nabouwalu is now working and fisherman are now able to purchase ice.

  • It has also been reported by teams who are out in the field that Nasaibitu Dam has been partly damaged. Cause of damage unknown. WAF has been informed accordingly.

  • Evacuation centres for Central division have all been all been closed as per 35/16.
