This Situation Report is issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre and covers the period from 0800 hours – 1600 hours on Saturday, 19/03/2016. Updates in this report summarise all reports and briefs submitted from the four (04) Divisional Emergency Operation Centres (DEOC’s).
1.0 HIGHLIGHTS OF LAST 12 HOURS
MLC Sigavou expected to depart Yacata today (19/03/16) and transport officials back to Taveuni and Savusavu.
MOE officials to visit Yasawa Island as part of the mobilization work to inspect progress of work to the affected schools - 21/03/2016.
MOE - Trauma counseling for badly affected schools started yesterday (18/03/16) for Bua schools namely - Baravi Primary School, Nadi District Schools and Vuya District Schools. The sole purpose of this visit was to assess the level of trauma in the community as well as empowering and enhancing the people to early recovery so that schools are able to return back to normalcy.
Estimated Damages in the Northern Division in various sectors stands at $190,725,402.92. (Please refer to appendix I)
Ministry of Agriculture is taking on awareness activities to promote Food Security Initiatives with government Agencies and Organisations such as EU, FAO, SPC, SPCIKSA Project, Live and Learn, MoFF, UNDP, Ola Fou, NDMO, NZDF, Ramakrishna, UNDP, UN Women, and WFP.
Four (4) schools are still being used as evacuation centres. Cikobia Primary in the Eastern Division (Province of Lau); and Nalawa Central School, Ra High School & St. Francis College for the Western Division in the Province of Ra with a total No. of 103 Evacuees.
