STATISTICS AND HIGHLIGHTS

  • Estimate of refugees/asylum-seekers currently in Serbia: 2,000

  • 12* individuals expressed their intent to seek asylum during the reporting period, bringing the total in March 2016 to 430. *Ministry of Interior (MOI) daily statistics

  • No official arrivals or departures were recorded.

SOUTH

682 refugees stayed in the Reception Centre in Presevo. UNHCR completed individual protection and solution assessments for over 80% of the refugee population. Preliminary findings identified survivors of violence or trauma, separated families, unaccompanied and separated children as well as medical needs.

REMAR offered hot meals, fruit, juice, and water in their tent and Caritas and Red Cross distributed breakfast, fruits and soup inside and outside the Tobacco Factory. UNHCR/SPDE distributed 638 bottles of water, 45 UNHCR blankets, two boots, seven winter jackets and 121 WFP HEBs. Divac Foundation distributed clothes and food to refugees.

The Health Clinic assisted 58 refugees inside the RC and 20 treated by Natan/Humedica. The UNICEF/DRC/CSW child friendly space hosted 30 children and 27 women.

Sport activities continued throughout the day with a football tournament organised by World Vision and other organisations. Ten mixed teams composed by refugees, humanitarian staff and police, played in a very friendly atmosphere supported by a large attendance of spectators.

BELGRADE

Over 100 refugees, migrants and asylum seekers were assisted by UNHCR partners in Belgrade. They were mainly from, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Morocco or Algeria. Over 50 refugees/migrants were observed at night in parks/bus station area.

SCRM, UNHCR/DRC, Asylum Info Centre (AIC), Refugee Aid Miksalište, Red Cross assisted them with food, clothes, use of internet and referrals to various services, including hospitals, registration and asylum information. Caritas distributed food and clothes at the park near the railway. MSF offered primary health care and distributed NFIs. AIC remained open 24/7 and assisted to register a group of Somalis, including one 12 years-old child. The group claimed that they walked all the way from fYR Macedonia border.
