Country: Ethiopia

BULLETIN #1

This bulletin presents the results of the first round of data collection to monitor the 2016 food sector response to the ongoing drought in Ethiopia. The data were mostly collected during the last week of February.

The bulletin is a joint product of the Food Cluster.

MAIN FINDINGS

  1. The ability of the affected population to cover food needs from its own means has deteriorated. A large percentage of households cannot afford the cost of the minimum food basket for a healthy life.

  2. The meagre coverage of daily food needs through own means is in spite of a high prevalence of negative coping strategies.

  3. Access to food from all sources is severely constrained for a large segment of the affected population. Affected households are consuming considerably less than their minimum daily food needs.
