STATISTICS AND HIGHLIGHTS

  • Occupancy in the three Refugee Aid Points (RAP) in the West continued to drop from 240 to below 150, i.e. 16% of some three weeks ago.

  • 20 (16 on 06/04 and 4 on 07/04) persons expressed intent to seek asylum, bringing the total in April 2016 to 104 and for the whole of 2016 to 1,990 (statistics courtesy of the Ministry of Interior).

SOUTH

Around 530 refugees remained accommodated in the Reception Centre (RC) in Presevo. Four migrants/refugees from Pakistan and two from Syria arrived from fYR Macedonia, applied for asylum and were referred to Asylum Centres. UNHCR/SPDE distributed 2,548 water bottles, 29 pairs of socks and 105 WFP HEBs. Divac Foundation assisted refugees with clothes and food. The UNICEF/DRC/CSW child friendly space hosted 157 children and 137 women including two pregnant. MSF offered medical assistance to refugees while the Health Clinic and Natan/Humedica clinic treated 156 patients.

EAST

19 irregular arrivals from Afghanistan, several of them possibly under age, were noted on 7 April in Dimitrovgrad. Sigma Plus and the Red Cross assisted them with food, water and clothes.

BELGRADE

Up to 320 refugees/migrants were observed in Belgrade. Most were from Afghanistan, Pakistan or Morocco. The Asylum Info Centre (AIC) assisted daily over 150, including new arrivals from fYR Macedonia and Bulgaria. AIC helped also three unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) from Afghanistan while MSF offered medical assistance in the city. Up to 170 spent the nights in parks near the bus and train stations.

NORTH

The number of asylum seekers waiting to be admitted into transit zones at the border with Hungary increased to over 200, including many women and children. They arrived from RAPs in the West and from Belgrade but also included new irregular arrivals. 92 were admitted into asylum procedures in Hungary. A re-established regular UNHCR/HCIT presence distributed urgent food and non-food aid to those waiting on Serbian territory.

WEST

A hand-over ceremony of the UNIQLO donation of children’s clothes in Adasevci and Priocipovac RAPs on 7 April was attended by Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucić, the Ambassador of Japan to Serbia, H.E. Juichi Takahara and the Representatives of UNICEF and UNHCR.

The number of refugees in the Sid RAP dropped to 34, in Adasevci RAP to 38 and in Principovac RAP to 74. Over 90 refugees left Sid, Adasevci and Pricipovac RAPs towards the Hungarian border.

CRS/Divac Foundation continued to distribute hot meals at all three location. During the reporting period BCM/Sid Health Centre and WAHA treated 24 patients at Adasevci RAP while other 20 were assisted in Principovac RAP.

Save the Children established a new child friendly space at Principovac RAP. Two Afghans left Sid on IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return programme.
