Eight new Ebola cases were confirmed in March in Forest Guinea. WFP provided food and logistics response.
Demand for UNHAS services increased by 44 percent following the latest flare up of Ebola. More medical evacuations than planned were conducted and the demand for cargo transport grew by 175 percent. WFP needs additional USD 3.8 million for the SO to ensure continued logistics support.
Operational Updates
In March, WFP provided food assistance to 308,952 people under the Country Programme. This includes 11,561 Ebola affected families in Forest Guinea, 277,807 students and 19,584 malnourished people throughout the country.
Under its logistics Special Operation, WFP transported 1,080 cubic meters of cargo to locations across the country on behalf of seven partners including NGOs, UN agencies and government services. Storage was also provided for another 1,040 cubic meter of non-food items. Logistics management training was provided to 20 government staff.
UNHAS transported 725 passengers from 30 organisations to different locations. Another 5.4 mt of light cargo including Ebola vaccines was transported for humanitarian partners.
