Syrian Arab Republic: IOM regional response to the Syria crisis (April 2016)

Highlights

  • Syria: During the month of April, IOM in Damascus provided 206 beneficiaries with disability kits (containing wheelchairs and crutches) in crossline areas in Aleppo and Homs through inter-agency convoys. Furthermore, IOM started shelter interventions in Aleppo Governorate to enhance living conditions of 100 IDP families living in makeshift camps.

  • Lebanon: From 20 to 22 April, IOM in partnership with UNHCR conducted a training on Migration Management and Refugee Protection in Beirut for the General Security frontline staff and senior officers. Twenty Lebanese border officers from the General Security participated in the training.

  • Iraq: On 27 April, 100 Syrian families living in host communities in Erbil Governorate received a one-off unconditional cash transfer to help them meet their most pressing needs, including food, shelter and healthcare. In total, 440 individuals benefitted from this assistance.

  • Jordan: From 3 to 7 April, the 11th vaccination campaign against Polio was held in Za’atari camp targeting children under the age of 5 years old. This vaccination campaign was conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF and International Relief and Development. A total of 16,900 children under the age of 5 were vaccinated; of these 3,833 were vaccinated by IOM.

  • Turkey: IOM is supporting two community centres in Hatay and Istanbul that provide vocational trainings including computer and language courses to Syrians. In addition sewing and knitting courses have been introduced in Hatay as of April 2016. A total of 1,577 people were reached in the reporting period.
