In its emergency meeting, the higher committee for relief and shelter of IDPs has decided to allocate an amount of 2 Billion IQD to establish a camp for the displaced families from Fallujah in Al-Khalidyah district in Anbar Governorate, along with 500 million IQD for the provision of essential relief items.
The higher committee for relief and shelter of IDPs allocated 5 Billion IQD for Dohuk and Erbil Governorates to establish two camps in each governorate, through coordination with the KRG, to accommodate the displaced families during Ninewa liberation operations.
Subsequent to the liberation operations of Fallujah, on 27 May 2016, hundreds of Fallujah's families have been evacuated through two routes, the first one is (north of Fallujah towards the expressway then crossing the Sichir Bridge towards Sichir Village. The second route is (the west of the city, Al-Salam intersection towards Ameriyat Al-Fallujah) which witnessed the movement of 500 civilians who were provided with food items and first aid by ISF. Through the eastern side of the city, 750 people, most of them women and children were evacuated and received by the Anbar police command who will transfer them to safe locations.
The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR and its partner, Muslim Aid, are distributed on Friday 27th May, emergency relief items to families who have escaped Fallujah and are sheltering in one camp it has helped to set up in Ameriyat al-Fallujah, in Anbar governorate. The agency will also open two new camps next week in Habbaniyah Tourist City, that will able to accommodate 500 newly displaced families.
On 19 May 2016, The Government of Japan has provided US$ 3 million to support the work of the World Health Organization in Iraq. This contribution directly supports life-saving primary and secondary health care services in Duhok and the plains of Ninawa, where more than 600 000 people live, as well as the prevention, early detection and containment of outbreaks in 11 Governorates.
On 9th May 2016, UN-HABITAT inaugurated a new shelter site for internally displaced persons (IDPs) established in Darkar Ajam, Zakho district Dohuk Governorate, with generous contributions from Japan government. The IDP shelter site was established by (UN-Habitat), providing prefabricated shelter units to accommodate more than 4,800 vulnerable IDPs; basic infrastructure, and public facilities such as a productive health clinic, a women's social center and a security building.
JCMC conducted a joint field assessment visit to Najaf International Airport with the United Nations agencies, NOC, and technical directorates. Najaf International Airport will be utilized as an alternative for Baghdad international airport in case of the collapse of Mosul dam.
