Highlights
The latest Ebola flare up in Forest Guinea was contained. As a result, the WFP logistics base set up in Koropara to accommodate humanitarian aid workers was dismantled in mid-April. The Country Office (CO) continues to provide food assistance to Ebola survivors.
A pilot project activated in March 2016, aiming to sensitize the Guinean population on good dietary and hygiene practices through radio messages, will stop by the end of May if further funding is not received.
Operational Updates
The last round of food deliveries (April-June) in schools for the 2015/2016 school meals programme is ongoing. The operation that started in April is yet to be completed due to poor road conditions.
In April, the National Department of School Feeding added 20 new schools to the government pilot school meals project. This brings to 50 the total number of schools targeted by the pilot. Through this initiative, WFP provides technical support to government staff in monitoring, reporting and management of school meals activities. Food commodities are entirely supplied by the Government of Guinea.
Under its logistics Special Operation, WFP transported on behalf of the government, 1,300 cubic meters of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from its logistics base in Conakry to different Provincial Health Departments across the country.
