Humanitarian Response

Food Security

  • To date, 20 organizations have started their response, mainly INGOs (14 INGOs: Islamic Relief, Muslim Aid, Christian Aid, Concern World Wide, ACF, Save the Children International, CRS, BRAC, Oxfam, DanChurchAid, Solidarites International, ADRA and World Vision Bangladesh), five (5) local NGOs (Coast Trust, Mukti, YPSA, RIC and Shushilan), the Red Cross-Red Crescent (IFRC/BDRC) and one (1) UN agency (WFP);

  • The estimated amount delivered (or in process) is 1,000,033 USD (29% of the amount requested);

  • 164,610 people or 32,922 households are in process to receive or have already received assistance from the above mentioned organizations;

  • About 45% of the households targeted received food assistance in kind;

  • Laxmipur district is the less covered district (28% of the HRP target), then Barguna with 70% coverage (vs.
    HRP target);

  • WFP has provided food aid for have completed the distribution of rice to all planned 11,150 HHs in Cox’s bazar, Bhola, Patuakhali and Barguna;

  • FSC is updating the 4W tools and going to do a response gap analysis based on Kcal calculation.

Shelter

  • To date, 6 organizations have started their response, mainly Bangladesh Red Crescent Society/IFRC and INGO:s (Oxfam, World Vision, Concern Worldwide, Handicap International and Islamic Relief) for shelter and Plan International BD have provided NFI assistance;

  • 48 365 people or 9673 households have received shelter and/or NFI assistance, or are planned to receive assistance, covering 27 % of the JRP target for the emergency phase.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

  • With the support of UNICEF and in close collaboration with DPHE, distribution of hygiene kits is ongoing in affected districts to affected households. Additional 200 hygiene kits were distributed to affected households in Anawara and Bashkhali. Arrangements finalized for distribution of more hygiene kits in the affected districts and repairs/construction of new latrines are ongoing;

  • UNICEF has submitted CERF application for improved WASH services in 4 cyclone affected districts of Bhola, Barguna, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar;

  • Distribution of hygiene kits to 12,850 households in affected areas of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong and Bhola by International NGOs: Solidarites International, ACF, Concern Worldwide, Christian Aid, Save the Children, Muslim Aid, CRS, Oxfam and PLAN is ongoing.

Health – Sexual and Reproductive Health

  • In order to ensure immediate access to life-saving services for pregnant and lactating women and newborn babies, including for quality antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn care, detection of emergencies, linkage to health facilities, and skilled birth attendance, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with assistance from UNFPA completed the preparatory processes of deploying 20 midwives to 10 Union Health and Family Welfare Centers (UH&FWC) in the worst-hit areas (two midwives in each UH&FWC).
