Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM)
IOM is serving as site manager at the UN Mission in South Sudan
(UNMISS) displacement site and as State Focal Point for CCCM in
Western Bahr el Ghazal. ACTED will serve as site manager for other
collective centres in Wau town. CCCM conducted a headcount at the
UNMISS base on 3 July and identified 19,711 internally displaced
persons (IDPs), or 3,886 households. Families continue to arrive and a
second headcount is scheduled for next week. A population count will
soon take place at the South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC) and Cathedral
compounds. CCCM, UNMISS and humanitarian partners are
performing outreach activities and developing information management
systems for four sites in town. IOM has begun site development at the
UNMISS base to improve access to services, including latrines, water
points and clinics.
Health
Health needs among the displaced population remain immense. IOM
health teams are responding at the SSRC, Cathedral and in Ngisa, as
well as providing support and referrals to the UNMISS Level II Chinese
facility, Comboni Hospital and the Wau Teaching Hospital. On 4 July,
IOM conducted 182 consultations at the SSRC, 309 at the Cathedral
and 118 at Ngisa.
Psychosocial Support (PSS)
Acute psychosocial distress, mental health needs and gender-based
violence have been reported. IOM has identified 20 mental health and
PSS community mobilisers, including ten at the UNMISS base, five at
the Cathedral and five at the SSRC. Results from the PSS assessment
are being analysed in order to improve service delivery.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
At the UNMISS site, IOM and UNMISS have provided 278,000 litres of
water at a rate of 14.1 litres per person per day. Technicians are treating
the water and testing for safety and quality. With the addition of 34
latrines constructed by IOM and handed over to Oxfam, 120 latrines are
operational at the site at a ratio of 1 latrine per 164 people. In Ngisa,
IOM is rehabilitating two boreholes and conducting hygiene promotion
activities.
Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFIs)
With support from the Logistics Cluster, IOM is coordinating
assessments and distributions on behalf of the Shelter and NFI Cluster.
On 4 July, shelter and NFI materials were distributed to 1,393
households in Ngisa and 1,016 households in Mboro. The distribution of
plastic sheets and mosquito nets is underway at the Cathedral, and a
small number of additional shelter and NFI are being distributed to
households at the UNMISS base
