Highlights:
Sudan continues to be the largest recipient of South Sudanese refugees in the region with 231,581 South Sudanese refugees (out of which, 162,107 are children) registered as of the end of June. Since the start of 2016, 72,000 South Sudanese refugees have arrived in White Nile, East & South Darfur, as well as South and West Kordofan states. UNICEF Sudan and South Sudan exchange information regularly on new arrivals from both sides of the border.
2,005 children (998 boys and 1,007 girls) were affected by five schools being attacked and looted in militia attacks in Thur, Central Darfur. UNICEF and partners are requesting access to conduct damage assessments and support required. So far in 2016, UNICEF has supported basic education in emergency (EiE) services to 38,421 children, with an additional 9,485 children accessing safe learning spaces.
UNICEF in partnership with the State Ministry of Health delivered Rapid Response to 482 individuals displaced in the Abu Zabad locality, West Kordofan. Supplies reached the affected individuals within 3 days.
294,500 litres of drinking water was provided to 30,100 severely affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in North Darfur, West
Kordofan and White Nile states through implemented water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions.
73 new measles cases were reported from Alleit, Altwesha and Umkadada localities in North Darfur. In response, UNICEF immediately provided 20 primary health care kits needed to manage the reported cases. Total cases confirmed so far in 2016 are 1,347 (compared to 2,952 over the same period in 2015), across 28 localities.
Situation Overview and Humanitarian Needs

As of June 2016, 72,000 Refugees arrived in White Nile, East Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan and West Kordofan states alone. In North Darfur, some 52,871 IDPs sought refuge in Sortony, Tawilla, Kebkabiya town and Shadad camp since February 2016, following the crisis in Jebel Marra. It is estimated that some 28,000 people are internally displaced in South Darfur State with reports that there may be an additional 9,500 displaced people in the state since the beginning of 2016. In Central Darfur, there are unverified reports that 69,000 individuals in Nertiti, Thur, Guldo and Golo are in need of humanitarian assistance. Additional reports that some displaced people in North and Central Darfur returned to their places of origin have not been confirmed
