Drought Situation & EW Phase Classification
Biophysical Indicators
- The month of June was generally dry. However, off season rains were received in high attitude areas for three to five days. The rains were poorly distributed in time and space.
- Vegetation Condition Index of 64.46 was registered indicative of above normal conditions. However observed conditions were on a deteriorating trend.
- Rivers flows have reduced recording below normal levels. Distances to water sources have increased and water rationing has intensified in some parts of the constituency.
Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)
- Livestock body conditions and health were good across livelihood zones.
- Milk production was good at 7.8 bottles as compared to the previous month and the long term average.
- There was a slight drop in Milk consumption as compared to last month.
- Terms of trade stood at 0.23 same as was reported last month.
- Percentage at risk of malnutrition remained unchanged at 0.8 percent from last month which was within acceptable levels.
- Coping strategy index of 0.95 was reported indicating increased frequency in coping strategies employed compared to 0.8 last month.
