Highlights

  • The joint WFP-FAO smallholder value chains development programme (Purchase for Progress – P4P) is facing financial constraints. Operational Updates

  • WFP is preparing the launch of the Cost of Hunger study in DRC (planned for September 2016) with the support of the African Union, the government of DRC and several other stakeholders. The study aims to unveil the crushing impact of child undernutrition and malnutrition on health, education as well as on the national economy.

  • In June, WFP organized a workshop in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga province, to consolidate and analyze the results of the 14th IPC cycle of the acute food insecurity situation in DRC. The analysis covers the period from October 2015 to June 2016. The final results will be published in July and will be used for the next six months.

  • After several delays due to insecurity, WFP responded to several emergencies around Beni and Masisi territories in North Kivu by providing food assistance to IDPs fleeing insecurity in the areas.
WFP and Lutheran World Federation (LWF) assisted 29,000 IDPs and vulnerable host families in Eringeti and Luna in Beni territory, North Kivu by distributing 466 tons of food.

  • WFP and Caritas also assisted 34,000 vulnerable people (IDPs, returnees, IDP and returnee households and host communities) by distributing 558 tons of food in Mapti, Masisi territory.
