HIGHLIGHTS
The number of new refugee arrivals from South Sudan has remained similar to the day before. A total of 1,970 South Sudanese refugees were reported arriving in Uganda from multiple entry points (Adjumani, Arua, Kiryandongo, Lamwo and Moyo Districts).
Of the total new arrivals 840 refugees were reported at Elegu Collection Point (Adjumani), 89 refugees were reported in Arua District, 889 were reported in Kiryandongo, 74 were reported in Moyo, and 78 in Lamwo District.
New arrivals interviewed at Elegu Collection Point report fighting between government security forces (SPLA) and rebel forces (SPLA-IO), near Juba, creating the fear that fighting may increase in the future.
Reportedly, there is forceful recruitment of men and boys into armed groups and looting of private property is rampant.
Reportedly, people are being prevented from fleeing South Sudan to Uganda (Oraba border point) due to road blocks in the Kaya area of South Sudan.
The relocation of refugees to Bidibidi Settlement in Yumbe District began on April 3rd. The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), UNHCR, and partners relocated 897 refugees (538 from Moyo District and 359 from Nyumanzi Transit Centre) to the settlement, which has a capacity for approximately 100,000 refugees.
In Adjumani, two GBV cases were reported in Pagirinya Settlement. One defilement case was referred to the health centre and the perpetrator was detained while, in the second, an assessment of an alleged denial of resources by a head of household to their family members is currently ongoing.
The per capita water supply significantly improved in Pagirinya Reception Centre II due to an increase in water trucking and the addition of more water storage bladders. The water availability increased from 5 l/p/d to 15 l/p/d. The water availability rate is 11.5 l/p/d in Nyumanzi Transit Centre and 26 l/p/d in Pagirinya Reception Centre I.
