Highlights
An estimated 1.42 million people are affected (including 756,000 children) by the drought, including 800,000 people food insecure in the provinces of Cunene, Namibe and Huila. There are an estimated 95,877 Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) caseloads in the 7 most affected provinces, with 44,511 cases of SAM registered in the Provinces of Huila, Cunene and Namibe.
The number of suspected and confirmed cases of Yellow Fever continues to decline with only sporadic cases being reported. As of 24 July, a total of 879 laboratory confirmed cases have been reported out of 3,748 suspected cases and 364 death. Yellow Fever has been laboratory confirmed in 16 out of the 18 provinces in the country.
Technical support to provinces for surveillance and vaccination is ongoing. Since January 2016, a total of 15,028,270 million vaccines have been administered against yellow fever in the country.
The UNICEF Community Latrine Total Sanitation (CLTS) implementation to date has provided 56,456 people with access to appropriately designed toilets and reached 108,790 people with hygiene and sanitation messages. A combined approach WASH and Nutrition has facilitated the provision of WASH emergency items through health centers reaching 70,770 people.
So far, 6,000 people have been provided with access to safe water through the rehabilitation of water pumps.
In total, in 2016, 8,845 children under five with severe acute malnutrition have been treated through therapeutic treatment programmes.
