Highlights
UNICEF is leading the initiative for a proper water use, hygiene, and vector control campaign for official shelters and spontaneous sites. This initiative is coordinated among NGOs, Ministry of Health, National Police, the local cluster and local authorities, targeting more than 10,000 beneficiaries.
Water supply continues to be a large focus of UNICEF support. With the rehabilitation of pipes and the installation of a water pumping system in Cojimíes, more than 600 families will have access to safe water in the following weeks.
35 Early Child Development kits have been distributed in schools and temporary education and protection spaces to provide essential materials to 2,800 children ages 3 to 5.
4 Baby Friendly Spaces established by UNICEF and ACF continue to work in four official shelters, benefitting about 300 children under 5, 170 mothers and 90 pregnant women.
In Esmeraldas and Manabí provinces, micronutrients and other nutritional supplies were distributed to about 250,000 children and 26,800 women, reaching 100% of the target.
UNICEF partners from Esmeraldas and Manabí—TECHO, RET, DyA, CRE and PUCESE—participated in a training of trainers on digital risk mapping for youth and adolescents aimed at empowering them in part by developing their skills to prevent and detect risks and vulnerabilities in their schools and communities.
