Philippines: NDRRMC Update: SitRep No. 11 re Preparedness Measures and Effects of Southwest Monsoon (HABAGAT)

I. SITUATION OVERVIEW

Since 08 August 2016, Southwest Monsoon is affecting Luzon and Western Visayas.

On 09 August 2016, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) located at Aparri, Cagayan enhanced the Southwest Monsoon which brought moderate to heavy rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, CALABARZON, and the Provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Mindoro, and Northern Palawan.

At 10.00 AM, 10 August 2016. the LPA continued to enhance the Southwest Monsoon. Moderate to heavy rains was experienced over CALABARZON and Ilocos Region, and in the Provinces of Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Northern Palawan.

The LPA at Itbayat, Batanes exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on 11 August 2016 but continued to enhance the Southwest Monsoon.

On 12-14 August 2016, the Southwest Monsoon continued to bring light to heavy rains with isolated thunderstorms over Luzon and Western Visayas.

At 5:00 PM, 17 August 2016, Southwest Monsoon affecting western section of Northern and Central Luzon. Cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region. Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms is expected over the regions of Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest with slight to moderate seas.
