HIGHLIGHTS

  • Burundian refugees continue to flee to Tanzania and neighbouring countries, with around 75 to 100 new refugees arriving in Tanzania each day via various land border points.

  • Following the closure of the transit centre at the football stadium, Nyaragusu Camp now hosts 51,000 refugees from the recent Burundi influx as well as an additional 50,000 refugees from DRC who have been in the camp for up to 20 years. Space for new arrivals inNyaragusu camp continues to be a challenge.

  • The cholera outbreak continues to stabilise with rates of new cases dropping and no cholera deaths in the past 2 weeks. Reports of a new suspected cases of Cholera/AWD in communities outside the camp are being followed up and monitored closely.

  • Cases of malaria, acute respiratory infections, and diarrhoea remain the key concern among children under age 5 as the camp based health system struggles to keep up with a refugee population which has doubled in just one month.

  • Urgent support is required for UNICEF and partners to respond to the health, nutrition, child protection, education and WASH needs of vulnerable children and women arriving to the transit centers and Nyaragusu camp
