Biophysical Indicators

  • The County received enhanced rainfall especially in the highlands with a temporal distribution of 18 to 24 days in 30 days measured. This translated to a margin of 13% above the lower limit of the normal range. However, selected sites such as Orwa, Chepkobe and Konyao continue receiving depressed rains.

  • There was a considerable improvement in the vegetation condition {to above normal ranges (VCI-3month>50) across all the sub counties} during the month as evidenced by the VCI-3month shift from 48.89 in May to 64.8.

  • The existing surface water sources are recharged to 50-60% capacity with the underground sources exhibiting stability in terms of water supply. These are likely to last for 2-3 months if it continues to rain in July.

Socio-Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

  • Milk production and consumption continues to remain outside the normal ranges. However, terms of trade continue improving.

  • Forage condition remains good although parts of Sigor lack sufficient quantities. The body condition of all species across all livelihood zones is good and trekking distance to water source remain shorter.

  • All the utilization indicators (MUAC and CSI) fell within the normal ranges for the period.
