A total of 1,836 IDPs have relocated from the UNMISS base in Tongping to UN House since movements began on 28 July. Relocations take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with 651 individuals relocated over the week and 249 individuals registered for movement tomorrow on Wednesday 31 August. Whilst the registered Tongping population stands at 2,140 as of 29 August, CCCM are aware that due to recent unregistered arrivals residing at the site, the true population figure is higher. One new case of cholera was reported over the last 7 days, however case incidence continues to decline and there have been zero reported deaths at either site since the outbreak was declared.
UNMISS Tongping
CCCM
• Camp Management continue to mobilize IDPs for relocation through ‘town hall’ style meetings across the site by geographical area.
• Relocations were delayed on 29 August due to a group of women raising the issue that they had not been included in the headcount for relocation, having entered the site after the exercise had been completed. IOM, UNMISS RRP (Relief, Reintegration and Protection) and Protection Actors are in the process of addressing their concerns and establishing a clear solution for this group.
• The information desk at the RWANBATT gate continues to provide IDPs with up to date information on relocation and service provision in UN House, and also operates as a complaints/feedback point.
Shelter
• No further shelter construction or site work will be undertaken in Tongping. UNMISS has requested that humanitarian actors focus shelter work at the UN House site.
WASH
• IOM delivered 370,500 liters of safe drinking water at a rate of 21.5L per person per day with one tap per 59 people.
• There is one latrine for every 30 people with 14 hand washing facilities installed and functional and one bathing shelter for every 123 people.
• Camp Management continue to conduct health and hygiene promotion messaging both communally and at household level. In addition, 30 health education sessions have been held at schools and marketplaces.
Protection
• The Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) maintains an ongoing protective presence and routinely patrols the site.
• Camp Management meet with UNPOL on a regular basis to discuss security issues within the site, such as petty theft, and devise coordinated and collaborative strategies to mitigate and prevent them.
• UNHCR continues to conduct household interviews to identify and support people with specific needs (PSN) and better understand what these needs are.
UNMISS UN House
CCCM
• There are currently 38,529 IDPs residing within PoC 1 and PoC 3, UN House at 30 August, according to the headcount conducted on 13 August and the number of people relocated since.
• Biometric registration is scheduled to begin once WFP have completed the general food distribution (GFD), now that GFD registration is complete.
Shelter
• Shelter partners continue constructing temporary communal shelters for new arrivals. The shelters are built to a standard of c.1.5m2 per person and are only suitable for transit purposes.
• 307 individuals in PoC 1 remain in need of shelter and are currently residing in the community center, in addition to the remaining Tongping caseload to be received.
• Camp Management and Shelter began identifying empty plots in existing blocks this week with 40 spaces to be freed on 30 August. A comprehensive shelter plan for UN House is being developed so as to address the serious space constraints.
• Concern International will aim to have 7 shelters completed on the 30 August providing capacity for 420 people.
WASH
• Planning and construction of new WASH infrastructure for new arrivals is ongoing. This includes a water point in Zone E with a 10,000 liter capacity due to be opened over the weekend, shower blocks in Zone H/I and further latrine sites to be identified.
Food/Nutrition
• GFD registration has now been completed in both PoC 1 and PoC 3, with GFD scheduled to commence in the coming days starting with PoC 1. A date will shortly be confirmed for PoC 3.
• Nutrition partners continue to screen children and a blanket supplementary feeding programme (BSFP) is planned as part of GFD.
