Highlights
WFP provided nutrition support to pregnant and nursing women and children under five to treat moderate acute malnutrition in the districts of Karimama and Malanville.
Despite WFP’s support, the nutritional situation remains alarming and current stock will not allow WFP to assist all the identified people in need in the coming months.
The orange alert has been activated following the rising waters of the Niger River. WFP is closely monitoring the situation together with UNDP and the National Agency of Civil Protection.
Operational Updates
WFP implemented Targeted Supplementary Feeding activities in the districts of Karimama and Malanville in response to the high level of moderate acute malnutrition of children under five and Blanket Supplementary Feeding for pregnant and nursing women in the districts of Karimama and Malanville.
In order to be adequately prepared for the school year 2016-2017, WFP prepared the distribution plan for the first trimester and submitted it to the national counterpart who will be responsible for the dispatch. The operation is expected to start on the 14th of September.
The Vulnerability Analysis Mapping unit conducted a mission in the districts of Karimama and Malanville to prepare the next bulletin for the Food Security Monitoring System.
