Highlights:

• ACAP III began assessing victims of the 24 August attack on the American University of Afghanistan that killed 13 and wounded over 30 people.

• 50 immediate assistance distribution events were held in various parts of the country. 784 immediate assistance packages were delivered reaching 6,234 beneficiaries (3,077 male and 3,157 female).

• 513 victims (344 male and 169 female) were enrolled in psychosocial counselling during the month and counselling was completed for 193 victims (128 male and 65 female).
Counselling is ongoing for 644 victims (426 male and 218 female).

• 311 victims (254 male and 57 female) were assessed for physical rehabilitation assistance.

• Field surveyors identified 127 potential beneficiaries for economic reintegration assistance, ACAP III staff is conducting the second level screening on these candidates. 12 selected beneficiary families received economic reintegration support.

• Held a two day workshop for ACAP III physiotherapists to review and discuss ACAP III objectives, victim selection, service provision options and reporting requirements and to develop best practices for responding to challenges encountered in the field.

Issues:

• Fighting between government forces and anti-government elements intensified in Helmand, Kunduz and parts of Baghlan province resulting in a greater need for ACAP III assistance; however, access to these conflict areas continued to be restricted.

• The main supply route to Helmand (Kandahar – Lashkar Gah Highway) remained closed during the month due to on-going fighting, and as a result, ACAP III immediate assistance could not be delivered to Helmand victims.

Planned activities for next month:

• Hold quarterly meeting with UNMAS, USAID and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled to review ACAP III progress and discuss future planning.

• Receive USAID endorsement for the ACAP III Year 2 Work Plan (July 2016 – June 2017)
