Weekly Situation Summary
- A total of 15 counties have been affected by Cholera outbreaks since 26th December 2014.These counties are: Nairobi, Migori, Homa Bay, Bomet, Mombasa, Nakuru, Muranga, Kirinyaga, Baringo, Kiambu ,Embu, Machakos, Narok, Kilifi ,Trans nzoia Counties . Out of the affected Counties, only 13 have active outbreaks currently.
- Migori, and Bomet Cholera outbreaks have been successfully controlled
- Homabay county is experiencing a second wave of the outbreak
- The outbreak first started in Nairobi County on 26th December 2014. Later the outbreak was reported in Migori County on 30th January 2015, Homa Bay County on 2nd February 2015, Bomet County on 12th March 2015, Mombasa County on 6th April 2015, Nakuru 8th April , Muranga county on 18th April 2015, Kirinyaga county 21st April 2015, Embu on 26th April 2015, Baringo county on 7th May 2015 ,Kiambu county 7th May 2015,Machakos county 4th may 2015,Narok county 23rd may 2015 and Kilifi county on 28th may 2015. Trans Nzoia County is the latest to report a confirmed outbreak
- As of 9th June 2015, a total of 4295 cases and 81 deaths (CFR=1.9 %) had been reported nationally distributed as follows: Nairobi 755 cases, 19 deaths (CFR 2.5%), Migori 915 cases, 12 deaths (CFR 1.3%); Homa Bay (1st wave) 377 cases, 5 deaths (CFR 1.4%) ,Homa bay (2nd wave) 87,0 deaths. Bomet 272 cases, 2 deaths (CFR 0.7%) ,Mombasa 189 cases, 9 deaths (CFR 4.8%), Muranga 619 cases, 5 death (0.8%), Nakuru 266 cases, 16 deaths (CFR 6.0%),Kirinyaga 378 cases,0 deaths and Kiambu 114 cases,6 deaths (CFR 5.3%), Embu 179 cases, 2 deaths (CFR 5.3%),Machakos 60 cases, 3 deaths (CFR 5.0%), Narok 10 cases,0 deaths and Kilifi 21 cases,1 deaths (CFR 4.8%).
- A total of 2 new counties have confirmed outbreak since the last situational report on 3 June 2015
- Cumulatively 213 new cases were reported in the last one week ( 10 in Nakuru,30 in Nairobi, 10 in Baringo, 12 in Embu ,24 in Mombasa , 24 in Homa bay,13 in Machakos,3 in Narok,14 in Kilifi,2 mandera,1 Trans nzoia). This is a increase from the previous week where 184 new cases were reported.
- Two (2) new deaths were reported in the last one week in Kiambu county.
- There are 37 current admissions in Nakuru, Mombasa, Nairobi, Narok and Machakos Counties.
- A cholera TOT training targeting affected and at risk counties is scheduled to take place on 10th and 11th June 2014 in Thika. Thereafter, the TOTs are expected to sensitize health care workers on Cholera at the sub-county and facility levels
