Context
On June 25th, 2015 the Islamic State (ISIL/ISIS) advanced into Hasakeh city (Al-Hasakeh district), triggering large-scale population displacement. Four days of heavy conflict between Government, ISIL and the Kurdish People’s Defense Units (YPG) has featured aerial bombardments and destruction of public and private infrastructure.
The Syrian Arab Republic Department of Social Affairs (DoSA) estimates over 120,000 persons have been displaced both within the city (50,000) and to the eastern and northern districts of Hasakeh Governorate (70,000). According to OCHA, as of 29 June, 23,300 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were identified northern districts and sub-districts, including Qamishli (16,585), Tel Tamer (2,100), Ras Al-Ain (3,305) and Almuda (1,200). Registration and identification of IDPs is ongoing. The Kurdish self-administration has established a new camp in GreRash, Al-Tawal village, Al-Malikeyyah District to host up to 12,000 IDPs. Access to Hasakeh city remains extremely challenging due to the security situation.
