Highlights
An estimated 252,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) have fled across 16 of the 18 governorates in Iraq, including within Anbar Governorate itself1 since military operations and ISIL attacks escalated on 8 April 2015. Of those, 20,106 families (approximately 120,636 individuals) fled Ramadi since 15 May (IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM).
Since 8 April the UNICEF and WFP-led Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) Consortium (UN and NGOs) distributed a total of 100,000 RRM kits1 , benefitting 700,000 displaced people across more than 47 locations, including in many hard-to-reach locations.
According to international media reports on 30 May, Iraqi provincial officials estimate that at least 400 Iraqi children from Diyala and Anbar governorates have been kidnapped by the ISIL, within the span of one week, to be used as soldiers or suicide bombers.
Throughout the reporting period, UNICEF, through its implementing partner Rebuild Iraq Recruitment Programme (RIRP), dispatched WASH emergency items to various camps and collective centersin Baghdad Governorate improving access to safe drinking water for 3,620 IDPs, sanitation for approximately 2,000 IDPs, and hygiene for close to 7,500 IDPs recently displaced from Anbar.
UNICEF with the support of its implementing partners distributed 5,020 sets of clothes to children and women aged 18 to 40 years across camps and collective shelters in Baghdad Governorate.
Anbar Directorate of Health (DoH) received furniture to be used for the establishment of three Primary Health Care Centers (PHC) in areas with high influx of IDPs inside Anbar Governorate.
