There was a significant decrease (71%) in average rainfall amount received in July compared to the previous month.
The amount received was equal to the long term meanWater availability and access was normal water pans/dams had recorded significant recharge of 80% but others recorded less than 30% recharge mostly in Ganze sub county thus higher average distance trekked by households in search for water.
Kilifi County in July recorded an increase of 3month VCI by 4.39% compared to June. As at July 27th 2015, the 3month VCI was 61.32 up from 58.74 which was recorded in June.
Kilifi North and Malindi sub counties recorded the lowest 3month VCI of 56.84 and 55.77 respectively.
Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)On average livestock body condition was good in the month under review occasioned by quality pasture.
On average pasture quality and quantity was good across all livelihood zones though small pockets within livestock and mixed farming zones showed signs of deterioration.
The main water sources for domestic use across all livelihood zones in the month of July were pans/dams (63%) and pipeline (37%),
Average milk production and consumption at household level in the county remained stable
Average goat remained stable in July compared to the previous month while cattle prices recorded a slight decrease of 5% compared to June average price and this may be due to decrease in supply.
Average maize prices decrease by 6 percent compared to the previous month retailing at ksh34, while average beans price remained stably high.
Average percentage of children under five at risk of malnutrition remained stable at 3.3 percent.
Coping Strategy Index (CSI) remained stable compared to the previous month.
