Côte d’Ivoire is recovering from more than a decade of conflict, which has had a serious impact on the economic, social, security and humanitarian situation in the country. WFP’s operation is addressing the continuing relief needs and the transition to recovery.
Activities in 2014 include: (a) unconditional (food and cash) relief packages for vulnerable households, including returning refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), (b) Food/Cash-for-Assets programmes to assist vulnerable households, (c) nutritional rehabilitation of children between 6 and 59 months, pregnant women and nursing mothers, (d) food support and cash assistance to clients following anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and their families and (e) cash for caretakers of severely malnourished children in therapeutic feeding units. In September 2013, a new school meals development project, has taken over the previous assistance provided to primary school children, with an approximate target of 420,000 children. In 2014, WFP plans to support 805,440 people. WFP has been present in Côte d’Ivoire since 1968.
