Source: UN High Commissioner for Refugees
Country: Iraq, Syrian Arab Republic

HIGHLIGHTS

In the reporting period:

  • 225 Syrian asylum seekers entered the KR-I in July through the Peshkabour border which is open six days a week. UNHCR continues to ensure close monitoring and advocacy for persons of concern through regular presence at KR-I entry points.

  • 2,308 individuals returned from the KR-I to Syria. A notable increase in returns to Kobane has been reported, attributed to the rising cost of living in the KR-I, the hopes of securing better economic opportunities in Kobane, as well as for reasons of family reunification, property matters and agricultural pursuit.

  • Refugees in Al Obaidy camp in Anbar Governorate continue to lack access to legal assistance and documentation, given the inaccessibility to government services.
