Highlights

§ The Government of Tanzania has identified two new sites (Nduta and Mtendeli) to relocate an estimated 50,000 Burundian refugees (35,000 in Nduta and an initial 15,000 in Mtendeli). The relocation is due to start on October 7th, 2015.

§ The 2015 Rapid Joint Assessment Mission (JAM) was conducted from 1st to 4th September 2015 in Nyarugusu Camp. The assessment included four thematic areas: (1) Food security and livelihoods; (2) Logistics, warehousing and non-food items (3) Health, nutrition, WASH and school feeding; and (4) Environment, domestic energy, and shelter.

§ In the September-December 2015 seasonal weather outlook, the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) has forecast unfavorable weather conditions – rainfall and possible flooding - for north western Tanzania which includes the Kigoma Region.

§ During the third week of September, the UNICEF Regional advisor for Education visited Nyarugusu camp and met with various partners in the field and the UNICEF team in Dar Es Salaam.

§ The UNICEF Child Protection and Education sections have developed Strategy notes that provide guidance on the short, mid and long term interventions for the Burundi response.
