Overview
The earthquake affected areas in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas remain the focus of relief efforts. The region will continue to receive rain and snowfall in the coming week. The number of damaged houses continues to rise as assessments continue. In KP 31 percent of the fatalities were women and 38 per cent children.
Needs
As damage reports from Chitral and other more distant areas are received a clearer picture of the extent of the destruction is emerging. Confirming previous assumptions, the primary needs across all the affected areas are primarily winterization kits, shelter, NFIs and health interventions have been identified as the foremost needs of the affected communities.
Response
The Government is leading the relief efforts and assessments and surveys are still ongoing in the affected area.
Currently, the KP Government paid 91 per cent of the 232 death claims, 20 per cent of the 1,577 injury claims, and seven per cent of the 103, 268 housing claims. Tents blankets, and sleeping mats have been dispatched to Bajaur, Mohmand, Kurram, and Orakzai. Food packages were sent to Bajaur and Mohmand following the request from FDMA.
Gilgit-Baltistan has paid compensation to all families of the deceased as well as to 16 injured persons verified by Secretary of Health.
The FATA authorities have paid compensation to the families of 28 deaths and 143 injured people. They are also providing humanitarian assistance to the affected community of Bajaur, Mohmand, Kuram and Orakzai agency.
Seven relief camps have been established in Chitral covering the sub-tehsils.
Five new INGOs have receive NOCs bringing the total to 16.
WFP has completed relief food assistance to 2,800 earthquake affected families (16,800 beneficiaries) in Bajaur and Mohmand agencies of FATA through their partners HUJRA and PRCS.
Pakistan Red Crescent has completed distributions to 3,170 households of NFIs and shelter packages.
According to PRC six per cent of the families it has assisted are female-headed households Muslim Hands International has deployed two mobile health units consisting of two doctors, paramedic staff, support staff, two ambulances, and medicines. An average of 110 people are treated daily. Two distributions were carried out in rural Swat for 120 Beneficiaries. Further distributions of food and NFIs are planned for 1200 of the most affected people in Swat, Chitral, Dir Upper and Lower and Shangla. Muslim Hands International and UN Habitat have planned to conduct a post disaster shelter assessment.
HHRD Updates is focusing on the provision of health care assistance to 4,085 families and shelter support to 8,264 families in Lower Dir, Chitral, Shangla and Kalam.
CERD is providing support to affected families especially children < 5 and pregnant and lactating women by providing them with nutritional commodities in Shangla & Swat.
