Floods hit the Chennai City due to heavy rainfall in its environs in recent days. Adyar River (748 sq.km approx.) and Cooum River (1266 Sq. Km approx.) that flows through the Chennai city caused floods due to high intensity of rainfall. The city saw only a light rain on Thursday, but water level has been rising in some area as water was released periodically from overflowing Chembarabakkam dam. The India meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for the next two to three days in Tamil Nadu.

The rescue work has been rendered risky in some areas due to live electricity wires from broken poles that have fallen into the water. The state electricity board had suspended power as a precautionary measure. The Rajali naval air station at Arakonnam, 70 Km west of Chennai is functioning as a makeshift airport.

Weather Report: The India meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for the next two to three days in Tamil Nadu.
