Biophysical Indicators
Generally the cessation of the rains in most parts of the county was from the 1st to 2nd dekad of January.
However, some parts of the county received rainfall during the 2nd week of January after a dry spell of 1-2 weeks. No more rains are expected.
An average VCI of 55.68 was recorded for the county.
Generally pasture and browse condition was good across all the three livelihood zones as seen in the VCI recorded indicating above average greenness.
Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)
Livestock body condition was good for all the species across the three livelihood zones.
Crop Condition was good apart from few pockets in the Marginal Mixed farming zone where maize was stressed i.e. Usungu, Maweli, Makindu area, Nyianzau and Syengoni.
Both milk production and consumption was above the long term average.
- Migration of livestock was Normal.
The terms of trade were favorable during the month of January.
The return distance to water sources was above normal at 4.5Km and the cost of a 20litre Jerrican varied from KSh2 to KSh5
Percentage of Children at risk of Malnutrition and the CSI were within the Normal ranges.
