Fiji: National Emergency Operation Center: Tropical Cyclone Winston Situation Report 83 of 15/03/2016

The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the current operations undertaken after TC Winston.

This Situation Report is issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre and covers the period from 0000 hours 0800 hours on Tuesday, 15/03/2016. Updates in this report summarise all reports and briefs submitted from the four (04) Divisional Emergency Operation Centres (DEOC’s).

1.0 HIGHLIGHTS OF LAST 12 HOURS

1.1 Western Division
- MV Vunilagi to depart Lautoka wharf for the final Structural Damage Assessment, Emergency Water carting for Malolo & Vatulele.
- Food Distribution continues today to villages and Settlements throughout the Western Division.
- Maritime areas are also now requesting delivery of Emergency Water Supply. Commissioner Western’s Office is overseeing these requests.

1.2 Central Division
- Department of Energy to be reminded regarding the request to supply and install Solar Equipment to supplement Energy Supply in Vunidawa & Nayavu EOCs.
- Ration supply for affected government workers in Nayavu.

1.3 Eastern Division
- The DO Gau/Nairai/Batiki will be travelling to Batiki and Nairai to conduct further assessment when the weather permits since they are experiencing rough seas at the moment.
- The Department of Corrections has completed cleaning and clearing of all villages in Ovalau, therefore the Corrections team from Suva will be departing Ovalau for Suva on Wednesday (16/03/16).
- The Bureau of Statistics team is conducting assessment of Evacuation Centres in Baba Settlement, Kalaba, Navoka, Mission Hill, Delana and Levuka Vakaviti.
- A team from the Ministry of Minerals conducted a survey and confirmed the new site to which Sinuvaca village is to be relocated.
- Mr. Satakala officially took over from the outgoing District Officer.
- The NGO Shelter Box was in the AO and handed over 18 x shelter box tents.
- The Ministry of Health today distributed Hygiene Kit Packs to the Nabasovi Health Centre, Nagadro settlement and Namila settlement.
- A team from the UNDP was in the AO conducting assessment and also proposing to employ youths in the villages

2.0 STATUS SUMMARY

Number of deaths remained at 44 when this report was compiled. Only two (2) Divisions, Western and Eastern still have active Evacuation Centres. The total no. of evacuees for the two divisions as at to-date is 5,789.
