The new parliament was inaugurated on 3 May, signaling the end of the political transition. 128 members have been elected, with 12 more to be added soon.
As of the end of April, the Population Movement Commission (CMP) set the total number of IDPs in CAR at 418,638 as compared to 420,231 the previous month, reflecting a slight decrease.
Humanitarian access in parts of CAR continues to be impeded by persisting insecurity and violent attacks. In Ouham prefecture, near Nana Bakassa, suspected Revolution and Justice (RJ) armed elements ambushed a well-identified MSF convoy of two vehicles and killed one of the drivers.
As a result of week-long clashes between armed groups in Koui and Bocaranga in the northwest, including attacks against civilians, more than 10,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.
UNICEF continues to support national NGOs in 32 IDP sites to provide educational instruction to 30,191 children (49% girls) in temporary learning spaces.
