COUNTRY STRATEGY
Moving away from crisis assistance, WFP’s strategy in Tajikistan has been increasingly emphasising three longer term objectives: 1) policy advocacy by expert advice to Government and partners to ensure food security and nutrition are prioritised in national strategies, policies and programmes; 2) Technical Assistance and Capacity Development by support to Government and partners to enhance their capacity to implement and monitor sustainable solutions; 3) direct implementation to support food insecure communities to improve their livelihoods and resilience to shocks and to complement the Government owned social safety nets for the most vulnerable people. WFP has been present in the country since 1993 and in 2014 assisted over 435,000 beneficiaries in mostly rural areas.
