Drought Situation & EW Phase Classification

Biophysical Indicators

  • All parts of the county received rainfall during the month under review. Nasukuta rainfall station recorded a temporal distribution of sixteen days with rainfall received being 113 percent of the normal. The spatial distribution was fair.

  • The condition of vegetation remained stable albeit with a negligible deterioration as evidenced by the shift in vegetation condition index (VCI-3month) from 64.88 in June to 57.75 during the current month.

  • Forage condition remains good across all livelihood zones.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

  • Maize condition remains good and livestock continue exhibiting a good body condition. Milk production levels rose and remained within the normal range for the month. Neither was there migration (in and out) during the month nor livestock deaths attributed to drought.

  • Milk consumption improved slightly and the ToT remained unchanged from the previous month. All other access indicators were within the normal range with distance to water sources stabilizing at 1.8km.

  • Proportion of children ‘at risk’ of malnutrition increased slightly and fell outside the normal range with the CSI falling strongly within the normal range for the month.
