HONDURAS

A UNHCR study reveals that Honduras has more than 200,000 internally displaced people due to violence. This number may be much higher as only one study has been carried out by government authorities and indicates 174,000 Hondurans displaced by violence in 20 of the country’s 298 municipalities.

GUATEMALA

Ash particles were reported in the south-western part of the country after the Santiaguito Volcano erupted generating an ash column that reached 5,000 meters above sea level. The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) reported that the explosion generated lava flows and strong tremors. Authorities are monitoring 8,000 areas that are at risk of flash floods and mudslides and recommend people to take precaution and avoid spending time in areas near the volcano.
