During the month, the county experienced depressed rainfall especially in the lowlands with a temporal distribution of only 8days on average in 30 days measured. That translated to a margin of 9% below the lower limit of the normal range. This led to maize wilting especially in the pastoral zone.
Vegetation condition remained fairly good as evidenced by the VCI-3month of66.3.However, that of Pokot north and central deteriorated slightly.
The water levels in the existing surface water sources dwindled to 25% capacity and were likely to last for 1-2 months. No significant recharge took place in July.
Socio-Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)
Milk production and consumption remained outside the normal ranges with the terms of trade worsening.
Browse condition was fair to good unlike pasture that was poor to fair and depleted in some sites mainly in the pastoral zone. The body condition of cattle was poor in the pastoral zone and fair to good in the other zones as the trekking distance to water source became longer.
MUAC as a utilization indicator fell outside the normal ranges for the period indicating an increase in malnutrition levels. The CSI increased but remained within the normal range for the month.
